Your contributed article, Tobacco science

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Tobacco science. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Tobacco. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Tobacco – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Eeekster (talk) 21:44, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:General lemonnier.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:General lemonnier.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:05, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

[edit]

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)

[edit]

Hi there! Wikipedia Asian Month is about to start. Here is some information about participating in the event:

  1. Please submit your articles via this tool. Click 'log in' at the top-right and OAuth will take care the rest. You can also change the interface language at the top-right.
  2. Once you submit an article, the tool will add a template to the article and mark it as needing review by an organizer. You can check your progress using the tool, which includes how many accepted articles you have.
  3. Participants who achieve 4 accepted articles will receive a Wikipedia Asian Month postcard. You will receive another special postcard if you achieve 15 accepted articles. The Wikipedian with the highest number of accepted articles on the English Wikipedia will be honored as a "Wikipedia Asian Ambassador", and will receive a signed certificate and additional postcard.
  4. If you have any problems accessing or using the tool, you can submit your articles at this page next to your username.

Dear Participants and Organizers,

Because of the COVID19 pandemic, there are a lot of countries’ international postal systems not reopened yet. We would like to send all the participants digital postcards and digital certifications for organizers to your email account in the upcoming weeks. For the paper ones, we will track the latest status of the international postal systems of all the countries and hope the postcards and certifications can be delivered to your mailboxes as soon as possible.

Take good care and wish you all the best.

Hey there, though the Wikipedia:Service awards are not a rigidly enforced set of badges, I thought I might casually mention that you don't exactly meet the criteria for Senior Editor III. The awards require both a certain amount of time and a certain number of edits. I think you'd be more accurately described as Experienced Editor with 7,000 edits over 13 years. Regards, and no disrespect intended. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 00:20, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Oaktree b, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! ~Swarm~ {sting} 02:07, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Liberty Poole

[edit]

Hi Oaktree b I noticed you did a fantastic job on Shannon Singh's article and was wondering if you might create one for Liberty Poole? Liberty has now appeared on two television shows Love Island and Dancing on Ice and so now qualifies for one 2A01:4C8:C21:C53:F05D:B522:AEC6:9ABE (talk) 05:32, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I'll take a look at it. All depends on what sources are available. I get hits form the Mail and Daily Mirror, which aren't acceptable. Have to see if anything else comes up. Oaktree b (talk) 12:49, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the request above is coming from a globally-locked editor. Please be aware of such requests from similar IPs.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 18:59, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed, I believe the article has merit, found a few reputable sources, the Poole lady has been in a few reality TV shows in the UK for a number of episodes, should meet the notability requirements. The article about the skating show had a red link for it with all other contestants having articles, so there is some need for the article, as well. Oaktree b (talk) 21:11, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for trying. I've been at it for hours to try to assist the editor in understanding notability, and I think I'm just going in circles. Oh well. Singularity42 (talk) 20:29, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Someone has now threatened me for nominating Ethelmary Oakland for deletion. That someone threatens me for nominating an article sourced only to IMDb, which we hold to be unreliable, is very frustrating. Clarifying the policy on content-free business articles

[edit]

Hey! I've seen you around a whole bunch on AfD talking about articles that are just lists of financial transactions and stuff (like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jungle Ventures). I'm trying to clarify the policy on them a little, since there's definitely a small community of folks who are insistent that raising VC rounds establishes notability, and wondering if you might know how to go about it. I started a discussion here to try and clarify WP:NCORP here Wikipedia_talk:Notability_(organizations_and_companies)#Analyst_reports_in_WP:LISTED but it's got very little discussion so far and might not be enough. Thoughts? FalconK (talk) 02:10, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Article deletion confusion

[edit]

I am sure your equally confused as me. My theory is that some article about a flood got nominated 4 deletion but the link to that deletion discussion got "lost in a flood"(I'll stop the dumb jokes)and the link to the flood deletion discussion goes to the yahwism deletion discussion. May ask permission to remove your question from the deletion debate so that debate stays on Yahwism. MAY I also ask to know the flood article title so I can help clear things up Greenhighwayconstruction (talk) 01:06, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine, I appreciate bad jokes! The flood article was "Bridgeton flood of 1934". No problem with moving things around as needed. Oaktree b (talk) 01:13, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The nominator of this AfD has been blocked as a sock, and you are the only other user who supported deletion, on the basis that there were only passing mentions in two sources. About a dozen more news articles written specifically about the subject have been found since then, so if you would be willing to reconsider your vote, I think it would help to expedite closing the issue. Thanks! 2406:3003:2077:1E60:C998:20C6:8CCF:5730 (talk) 06:21, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Oaktree b,

I just wanted to thank you for your active participation in deletion discussions. I don't always see things the same way that you see them but as a discussion closer, it's not about my opinion but about the consensus and evidence presented by the discussion participants. I see you there frequently and I know it can be time-consuming giving articles a thorough evaluation and tracking down sources so I wanted to thank you for that. And I hope if you have issues with either a comment of mine or a closure, you'll come talk it out on my User talk page. See you around! Liz Read! Talk! 06:36, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What is your impression? (looks like many articles proved transitory).. Flibbertigibbets (talk) 01:37, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Some users don't quite understand what "notability" means for wikipedia. I don't necessarily fault them; I've been doing wiki article for almost 20 years. It takes a while to understand the various bits and bots here and how to properly source things. I think that's the case with this user; some are just very excited to create articles without getting all the parts correct. It's important to stick with it, that's really the only way to improve. Oaktree b (talk) 01:45, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think I hit the learning curve at high speed, or the curve hit me in the face; I am not sure. Notability is tricky.. I am trying to learn about it at the moment. I have been keeping a "learning log" on my talk page.. I am trying not to cause too much chaos or overhead for others. anyway its good to be meeting folks and working with them.. Wikipedia was a good supplement today to kayaking. Flibbertigibbets (talk) 01:56, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is a good resource, I consult it often; a chart showing what is a "reliable source" here and what isn't. [2]. In a nutshell, try to get hits on what whatever topic you're writing an article about from the "green sources" and none from the "red sources". Otherwise, peer-reviewed scientific journals are the top level source (like what you'd find in Google Scholar), then books, then magazines and newspapers. Yes, I think I clicked on the wrong one using the twinkle thing. That's ok. Oaktree b (talk) 21:42, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, gotcha. Given that the lead for Ridge Alkonis is now smaller than before, should it be tagged with Template:Lead too short or is it fine as is? (Also, sorry for not mentioning the article name. That was intended to go in the section name.) --Super Goku V (talk) 19:06, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AfD comments

[edit]

Hi. I hope you are doing well. I often come across your participation in AfDs. I have always found your arguments well thought, and well worded. I just have a nagging suggestion. Sometimes, you break the indent/dont follow standard MOS while commenting. When you are !voting, no matter what is above, the !vote should be bulleted (with *'''keep/delete/merge/redirect'''), other than that everything is good :-) —usernamekiran (talk) 02:15, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I do that sometimes, my thoughts get disorganized. I'll post my reasoning for !delete, then realize I haven't actually put in the DELETE part yet. No worries. I'll try to stick to convention. Oaktree b (talk) 02:46, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Something fishy

[edit]

Hey I saw you opened Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tony Michael. The user Christopheronthemove looks really suspicious after I found Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Jehowahyereh/Archive. I think the evidence provided there were pretty clear to prove Christopheronthemove have been using multiple accounts. Even the closing admin commented as It's certainly possible that there's some socking/meatpuppetry/UPE going on here. Unfortunately the filer of that case also got blocked and no action were taken only because of that. This user's sudden jump into AFD discussions immediately after creating the ID looks so suspicious to me. They are continuously creating promotional articles. Look at Vriddhi Vishal. I think someone experienced like you should watch over this user's edits. Thank you. 111.92.78.199 (talk) 18:17, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your tireless cleaning on AfD

[edit]

An admin once said about articles that shouldn't be on Wikipedia that it's "a sad feature of Wikipedia that it will continue to have a lot of substandard content." The "substandard content" gets added everyday.

You have a knack for finding every manner of article that has no reason to be on the project and nominating it on AfD. My opinion is not the popular one but it is my perspective you're doing a great service and adeptly navigating a difficult area where, in my observation, the most canvassing and spurious arguing happens on the website. Saucysalsa30 (talk) 21:32, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well thank you, I wonder sometimes if it's helping anyone. Glad to hear it. Oaktree b (talk) 22:22, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AfDs

[edit]

Hello! I would like to thank you for your help on my AfDs. You regularly contribute to the discussion of my nominations in the last few days. Unfortunately, I feel my work wasn't recognized at all, to the contrary, it was even being blamed for implicit misogyny and discrimination by a user. Since I am still quite new and I wasn't expected such unfair comments, I won't continue in that aspect of work anymore. Is it possible to inform you about some additional articles that I intended to nominate for deletion in order for you to check and start this process? The articles are: CAP-e, Neembuu Uploader and GigaPix. Thank you, Chiserc (talk) 15:10, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'll look at those. Thank you for your kind comment. Oaktree b (talk) 15:16, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why marked my article as speedy?

[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional because it provides a factual overview of the notable achievements and contributions of Amro Mustafa (formerly known as Zack TM), an Egyptian entrepreneur. The article highlights his educational background, career trajectory, and involvement in various ventures, including software solution companies and investments in well-known organizations. While it mentions specific companies, the focus is on Mustafa's professional journey and entrepreneurial endeavors, rather than solely promoting those companies. The content adheres to the guidelines of providing an objective and informative perspective on the subject. --Zacktm3 (talk) 15:17, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Does not seem to meet standard notability requirements. Oaktree b (talk) 15:34, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Google's full of related news, Anyways..I'm updating the references with multiple news articles mentioning the person from known websites, Hopefully this fixes the issue. Zacktm3 (talk) 15:36, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It appears promotional for a non-notable individual. If it's not, they will keep it. Oaktree b (talk) 15:44, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AFDs

[edit]

Hello, Oaktree b,

I just wanted to thank you for your continued, thoughtful participation in AFD deletion discussions. We have a lot fewer "regulars" in AFD land than we did a year or so ago and even fewer who are not a predictable "Delete" or "Keep" in every discussion they participate in. I take your opinion seriously, especially on relisted discussions, because I know you actually investigate and evaluate an article, its sources and even look for previously undiscovered sources that can be used to improve an article. I think right now we have too many newish editors participating in AFDs who see it as a vote and not as an opportunity to possibly improve a mediocre article to become a better one.

We seem to have lost a lot of participating editors during last year's battles over athletes' biographies and if you know of any editors who were once active in AFDs and "retired" and who offered useful opinions in discussion, please give them a nudge and encourage them to return even on a occasional basis. Thanks again for all of your contributions to the project. Liz Read! Talk! 00:10, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thank you for the kind words. I'm trying to do what I can in AfD. I've often wondered if it matters what I do, or if I'm too harsh at times, but I hope it makes some small difference. Oaktree b (talk) 00:16, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you are too harsh. There are a few regular participants at AFDs who make snide comments, about the article, the article subject or other participants. But I haven't seen that coming from you, I don't think I've seen you commenting on other editors at all and you stick to points about sources and policy. It's appreciated! I wish I could clone you! That doesn't mean I always agree with you and your position, I just know you have put some thought and effort into it and it isn't a knee-jerk "Delete per nom" or "Meets GNG" which I wish I could just strike out like comments by sockpuppets. But that's not how remarks like those are handled in deletion discussions. Liz Read! Talk! 03:48, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I came here to say this! Thanks for your efforts. Chamaemelum (talk) 07:08, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Judikay

[edit]

Hello. First of all, I want to thank you for your relentless efforts to the Wikipedia community.I strongly commend you and draw a lot of inspiration from your works. However, I'll really love to understand why you marked an article I created "Judikay" for deletion. She has over 5 awards/nominations which are all referenced, a lot of media coverage from reliable sources, notable works (song) and international recognition. Perhaps, there's something missing on my own end. I'm just really curious as to why the article was flagged for deletion. I'll really appreciate your response. Once again, thanks for all you do. Cheers! Mevoelo (talk) 21:06, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies - I was in the process of deleting Anthony Vaz (American investor) as complete garbage at the same time you were nominating at AFD. I left a note there. I'd prefer to let the CSD stand and close the AFD early, but can undelete if you're seeing something I may be missing in the sourcing. Sam Kuru (talk) 13:40, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, that's fine. I'll ask to close the AfD. Oaktree b (talk) 13:41, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Deaf Queer Men Only question

[edit]

Hi - thank you for your feedback on the new article and your willingness to help newer users. I understood that the cited Chicago Tribune article, Windy City Times article, and Canadian Deaf news, all of which are independent and significant coverage, would be enough? Oddrobb (talk) 16:30, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm curious

[edit]

You're a prolific AfD nominator across a wide range of topics -- do you have a method for how you look for articles to nominate (for instance, perusing a maintenance category of articles tagged as problematic)? Or are you more eclectic (I just look at the list of AfDs and pick ones I find interesting).

Anyway, what you do is important even if we frequently disagree. Thanks for doing this!

--A. B. (talkcontribsglobal count) 20:33, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh it's usually a quick scan of the new page patrol list and I can tell from the flowery language which ones are needing AfD. I'm going for the low hanging fruit now (the ones you can tell are puffery), anything Nigeria, India, crypto or entrepreneur are likely candidates. Otherwise, just ones that sound like BS, lol. You get the hang of it quick enough; I'd apply to be a new page patroller but I do other projects off-line, so this is just ad-hoc for now. Oaktree b (talk) 20:54, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense. Thanks, A. B. (talkcontribsglobal count) 20:59, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AFDs

[edit]

Hello, Oaktree b,

I hope you know that I value all of your contributions but especially your consistent participation in AFD deletion discussions. I always value your evaluation of articles even when they don't end up in line with the consensus of the group. However, I just closed several AFD discussions you started as Keeps and the commonality is that you nominated all of these articles within an hour or a few hours after they were created in main space.

There is no official "grace period" that we extend to editors creating new articles before they can be tagged for deletion but I would advise against nominating an article that has just been created and is actively being edited and improved. What can happen is over the next 7 days, the article is improved so much that it doesn't resemble the original article you tagged for a deletion discussion. On the other hand, I think we have lots of poor articles from the "old days" that could use clearing out. I know they can be tougher to track down but you might take a subject you know well and just go through a category, looking at older articles that don't meet the standards we have in 2023. I think of an editor a year or so ago who went through a software category and PROD'd dozens of articles of software that were created 15 years ago and then the software wasn't supported or the company was shut down or the programs just disappeared. Just dated articles that made no sense a decade later. Any way, it's just a suggestion.

Thanks again for all you do and I hope you are having a cool and restful weekend. Liz Read! Talk! 00:41, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New pages patrol invitation

[edit]
Hello, Oaktree b.
  • The new pages patrol team is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • I believe that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Thanks, Hey man im josh (talk) 17:17, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hi Oaktree b. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Steps such as checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline are mandatory and will take a few minutes per article.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any required steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 00:42, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:William Kilbourn.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:William Kilbourn.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:22, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Re

[edit]

I'm replying here as the AfD has already too many sidetracks. I'm a bit puzzled about your request. Generally speaking linking a RS is enough to judge its reliability, here I also summarized to the best of my ability the Kol Ha'ir article and enlighted its elements of significance (the commercial success of the album with 6,000 copies sold, the hit songs, the bad reviews commentary, the "established phenomenon in the entertainment industry/market" literal citation), I expected a comment on these contents, but if your reply is "I don't speak Hebrew so don't feel able to judge the quality of the sources" I have no idea how to convince you a given article is a piece of sigcov and that its contents support a claim of notability. For what it's worth, this is the page about the newspaper in hewiki, maybe you can use a translator to get an idea its reliability (the same with the other sources). I am not sure what more I am supposed to do. If you are asking me something like fully translate all the available sources, I anticipate that I am not available to such a crazy task, as I have already spent way too much time on that page. Rajput Mughal marriage alliances

Oaktree b (talk) Hey, good morning. Wrongly, I prodded the Rajput Mughal marriage alliances page for deletion, then I immediately undid my edit, but after some time, a robot again prodded for deletion. I didn't prod, and I really want to save the article. Please recommend to me the right way to request or get rid of this mistake because my intentions were to request the deletion of only one page of the Jethwa dynasty and nothing else. So if you're familiar with how to save a mistakenly deleted page, please do help. Thank you Transe Ænd Danse (talk) 20:27, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oaktree b. I saw your latest comment on Articles for deletion/Fuck the War EP. I know that you didn't mean anything by it but I have a feeling that Annette Bonze Blayk might react negatively to your use of the word "man" when you replied to her. It might be a good idea to go back and change the comment before it unintentionally causes any more drama. --DanielRigal (talk) 23:02, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Placement of your AfD votes

[edit]

Is there a reason why you place your AfD !votes often higher on the page, even at the very beginning, instead of in chronological order? Your indentation is also different to the standard used on those pages. Fram (talk) 14:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'll usually reply to the main deletion discussion, so it doesn't get indented further down the page, I would assume responding to the main article is the correct way to reply, not to the last comment in the forum. Oaktree b (talk) 14:21, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The "Reply" function isn't great at correctly placing things other than for simple discussions. The "Edit" function is probably better to use. Or using a tool like Awesome Aasim's xfdvote. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:28, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, in an AfD a comment is supposed to be placed at the bottom, not where some tool may place it (of course a reply to another "keep" or "delete" should be placed below that one, as in any discussion, but a new "keep", "delete", "merge" should always be placed as the last comment, not near the top or somewhere in the middle). Fram (talk) 14:44, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That tool looks nifty, I'll give it a try. Oaktree b (talk) 14:49, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alexzandra Sarmiento's page

[edit]

hi there, I spotted that you moved one of the pages I created to draft. I thought sources were pretty good and I have spotted other articles on wiki being much shorted and with barely any sources. Can I ask you what made this one go back to draft? How can I improve it and how many sources do I need? Thank you Musicalge3k5 (talk) 22:42, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

We're looking for more extensive sourcing, articles about her for example. Most of what's given are name drops. She won the theatre award as shown in the article, there should be articles about that. I think if we had one or two big articles about her for sourcing, the article would be good. She is notable, but I didn't think the sources used were just quite enough. Hope that explains it. New pages patrol newsletter

[edit]

Hello Oaktree b,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Reminders:

Invite to Join Wikipedia Asian Month 2023

[edit]

You are receiving this message because you participated in the Wikipedia Asian Month 2022 as an organizer or editor.

Join the Wikipedia Asian Month 2023

Dear all,

The Wikipedia Asian Month 2023[1] is coming ! The campaign start within a flexible 30 days from November to December. Following with the changes of the rules made by last year, the wish to have more people get to know Asia and Asian related topic is the same! Click "Here" to Organize/Join a WAM Event.

1. Propose "Focus Theme" related to Asia !

If you are based somewhere in Asia, or have specific passion on an Asian topic, please propose your "Focus Theme" by October 25th. The WAM international team will select 5 themes. Please propose your focus theme through this link[2].

2. Enhancing existing articles can also count as part of campaign contribution.

Any edits, including creating new articles or adding new content to existing articles, over 3000 bytes in total would be able to get a reward. Last year, due to this change of rules, the Programs & Events Dashboard was suggested. However, according to community survey of 2022, Fountain Tool is still the best platform for tracking edit and points. You don’t need to create any Dashboard. For the tracking of editing existing article, the international team is currently designing a form. Will soon publish to the main page of WAM 2023.

3. More flexible campaign time

The contribution duration would remain 30days, but we extended the overall campaign timeline to 2 months. All organizers can decide when to start their WAM as long as the whole duration is within November 1st to December 31th. It means that you can participate in WAM based on the needs of your local community.

Timetable

  • October 1st, 2023 : Publish International Campaign Page of the Year
  • October 5th to 25th, 2023 : Call for focus themes of WAM 2023.
  • Before 29 October, 2023: Complete Registration [3] of Each language Wikipedia.
  • November 1st, UTC 00:00 to December 31th, UTC 00:00, 2023: Running the Campaign. (Find your local campaign for the actual event date.)
  • January 1st to March 15th, 2024: Auditing of each language Wikipedia.
  • March 30th, 2024: Deadline of reporting statistics and eligible editors to the International Team
  • April 1st to May 15th, 2024: The international team distributes Barnstars and Certificates to eligible editors of each event.

For your information, the main page of Wikipedia Asian Month is currently undertaking a reconstruction for archiving purpose. For the 2023 event please bookmarked this page. We hope you will enjoy Wikipedia Asian Month! If you have any inquiry, feel free to contact us by info@asianmonth.wiki [4]. We look forward to your participation.

Cheers!!!

Reliable sources

Hi, at the Jimi Cravity afd I read that you thought the sources I gave were unreliable. I have to disagree as the three christian music sites are listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christian music/Sources and AllMusic is regarded as reliable by most music editors hence its inclusion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources. Also. it no longer seems to have an entry at the perennial sources list, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 22:34, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Cornell study on Wikipedia discussions

[edit]

Hello Oaktree b,

I’m reaching out as part of a Cornell University academic study investigating the potential for user-facing tools to help improve discussion quality within Wikipedia discussion spaces (such as talk pages, noticeboards, etc.). We chose to reach out to you because you have been highly active on various discussion pages.

The study centers around a prototype tool, ConvoWizard, which is designed to warn Wikipedia editors when a discussion they are replying to is getting tense and at risk of derailing into personal attacks or incivility. More information about ConvoWizard and the study can be found at our research project page on meta-wiki.

If this sounds like it might be interesting to you, you can use this link to sign up and install ConvoWizard. Of course, if you are not interested, feel free to ignore this message.

If you have any questions or thoughts about the study, our team is happy to discuss! You may direct such comments to me or to my collaborator, Cristian_at_CornellNLP.

Thank you for your consideration.

Thank you, I'll try it out! Oaktree b (talk) 19:51, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I have a question

[edit]

Like you mentioned, at Manish Doshi's 2nd Afd nomination, the use of news coverage about a medical device not make it notable person, even though it's certified by the FDA. FDA certification is necessary to sell medical items in the USA, but it doesn't automatically make something or someone notable. This same idea was used in the nomination of Concept Medical. I am really doubtful how news and coverage about a medical devicee can make the company manufacturing it notable. Even though the AfD discussion is closed and I don't plan to nominate it again, mam curious to know if my nomination was incorrect. If it was, how should someone evaluate such articles? Charlie (talk) 11:57, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The AfD for the the subject article was closed as merge on October 10. Since you started the discussion, I wanted to remind you about it because it has not yet been merged. I realize there is no hard requirement for an AfD starter to complete resulting merge work, but I hope you will consider doing it. Stefen Towers among the rest! Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to Eastern Europe or the Balkans, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Russo-Ukrainian War. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

[edit]

Hello Oaktree b,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Noam Bettan

Hello, could you remove the added template since the relevance Noam Bettan was demonstrated and I was adding more independent and reliable references about the French Israeli artist The user has not yet responded to the different calls but the relevance is demonstrated Acartonadooopo (talk) 02:13, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this person should have a wikipedia article, the notability is not demonstrated. I've nominated it for deletion. Oaktree b (talk) 03:02, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am working on giving it more notoriety, I should recognize that the artist does have an established career, of course he is still emerging but that does not diminish his importance.--Acartonadooopo (talk) 14:04, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, because no one has yet issued an opinion on the relevance of the article Noam Bettan. I think that if a maintenance template already existed you did not have to open this query I am waiting for a response And the relevance and notoriety is more than proven.Acartonadooopo (talk) 16:23, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I figured it would get deleted, regardless. Oaktree b (talk) 04:22, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jean Houymet

[edit]

Good morning,

I'm new with Wikipedia and would like some help with the soft delete of this page. Sorry if it took months before I reached out but It took a while for me to realize that we had trouble with the page. Could you help me in understand the exact reason behind the deletion?

The following reasons were written in the talk page of the article - As near as I can tell, this person has no great significance other than being the "first of his name", i.e. someone who has a lot of descendents. I don't even know for sure if he was a farmer, or just someone who owned land. The provided references seem to indicate that the only research done into this individual was done by his family members; any non-relations giving reference are from primary documents directly connected to the subject. I will admit that I make this AFD after taking a hatchet to the article (see Special:Permalink/1222951438 for the previous version) but there is no usable content in the older version either (most of it is editorialising, OR, or speculation). Primefac (talk) 15:24, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

And you wrote this : Delete: A family biography project is not suitable for wikipedia. Interesting local history, but not meeting inclusion criteria here. Oaktree b (talk) 15:47, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

I'm writing this on behalf of a friend who did all the research about Jean Houymet and all his descendants. If the main issue is that Jean Houymet is not an important figure, we have found that many famous people are related to this Jean Houymet, the most famous one being Francis Desales Ouimet, the father of amateur golf in the USA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Ouimet

Here's a list of other famous people that are descendants of this Jean Houymet André OUIMET https://fr.wikisource.org/wiki/Les_Patriotes_de_1837-1838/29 Antoine OUILMETTE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoine_Ouilmette Danielle OUIMET https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danielle_Ouimet David OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Ouimet Francis DeSales OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Ouimet François OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran%C3%A7ois_Ouimet Gédéon OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A9d%C3%A9on_Ouimet Gérard OUIMETTE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerard_Ouimette J. Aldéric OUIMET https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph-Ald%C3%A9ric_Ouimet J. Alphonse OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphonse_Ouimet J. Rodolphe OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph-Rodolphe_Ouimet Jean OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Ouimet Joseph-Aldric OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph-Aldric_Ouimet Karl OUIMETTE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Ouimette Léo-Ernest OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%A9o-Ernest_Ouimet Lise OUIMETTE-PAYETTE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lise_Payette Marie-Josée GIBEAU-OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie-Jos%C3%A9e_Gilbeau-Ouimet Matt OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Ouimet Stephen OUIMET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Ouimette Steve OUIMETTE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Ouimette

I think it would be interesting to keep this Jean Houymet page and link it to all these famous people.

I do have to agree that a family biography project is not suitable for Wikipedia. If we rewrite this article in a more encyclopedic way and link it to all these famous Ouimet, would it be something accepted by Wikipedia?

Please get back to me on what's the best way to un-delete this page and modify it ton a Wikipedia worthy article.

Thank you very much for the help you will give me,

Pierre-Alexandre Planglois012 (talk) 14:15, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
