[edit]I've gone through and soted this list alphabetically by surname: when adding categories, please remember to sort the names too. e.g. [[Category:Film directors|Bay, Michael]]. Also, the template for people links to the IMDB is {{imdb name|id=0000881|name=Michael Bay}} The JPS 23:06, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I've removed all entries up to G to their corresponding sub-categories (if needed, one can allways fill this category with the entries from the other subcategories, but I don't think it necessary! We should avoid repetition as happens in List of directors, which I've also correctly categorized up to G, but it's quite time consuming!). Paulo Oliveira 11:51, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Genres
[edit]Why are film directors not categorised by genre? Carcharoth 10:23, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- Interesting, but that would only work for a handful. Ford for westerns, Hitchcock, etc... ? After that, there will be problems with over-categorisation (directors now rarely stick to one genre), or arguments over the genre of x based on particular thematics or iconography. - Thanks. I asked because I want to make a category for people navigating Tolkien-related articles to end up at a category involving Tolkien-related film stuff, including directors. I am wondering what to call this category, and whether it is OK to put category tags on directors other than the ones used at the moment. For reference, the people (not just directors) that I want to create this category for are: Peter Jackson; Philippa Boyens; Fran Walsh; Ralph Bakshi; Rankin/Bass; Saul Zaentz. What sort of mix of "Tolkien" and "film" label would be best for a category involving these people? I'd also want to link it upwards to the film part of the category "tree". Gender some sort of classification here?
[edit]Why is there a "Category:Film directors" and a separate category "Category:Female film directors"? Are male directors not as interesting? Or perhaps, are females not included in the regular category "film directors"? Is there also a separate category for transexual film directors, or do they just go under film directors?
