To-do list for Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna: Lots of history needs to be added:
Other sections necessary are current leadership and policies. |
POV?
[edit]Content of the article seems factually correct but the highly loaded(charged) wording shoud be corrected. Explanation is in Maxist point of view.
Only devotees of the JVP could possibly be interested in the better than two-thirds of this article that goes on about splits in the 'movement'.
Tamil Representation
[edit]Completely unmentioned is the lack of tamil representation in the JVP compared to other Marxist parties in the country.
1971 Uprising
[edit]Why is there no mention of the old leaders? Podi Athula, Loku Athula, Uyangoda, etc???
1983 Ethnic riots
[edit]What is "Vasudeva Baahu Vikrambaahu Kanakaratna’s" Party ? The NSSP? Who is Kanakaratna?
1989 violence
[edit]i've tried to add some counter-balance to this marxist apology but it's a terrible article and needs more attention than i can give. Aside from the prose, however hard it is to pin down the facts surrounding the JVP in 1989, anyone who was there at the time knows that they were in the thick of the appalling violence and a primary actor. This must be told. Gladstone 14:19, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Copyright violations
[edit]It appears that most of the "Founding" section is adapted from the JVP's web site [1] which is clearly marked as copyrighted material. Some sentences are verbatim. Tyronen 21:52, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Recent Developments
[edit]What about the prohibiton of the party and its legalization and ereturn into the political mainstream since the 1990s? Krankman 14:29, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Their role in Violence against Tamils
[edit]Could someone provide their accurate role in Violence against Tamils ? They are the ones who are in alliance in Rajapakshe and had been a great thorn in the peace process. 219.64.148.36 12:09, 6 April 2007 (UTC) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 219.64.148.36 (talk) 12:07, 6 April 2007 (UTC).
Recent History
[edit]For a major Sri Lankan political party it is surprising that there is no information about the JVP's post 1989 history. Anyone willing ot take this on? Inbetweener (talk) 16:05, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Project
[edit]I will be working on beautifying this page in the near future. Comments are appreciated as progress begins.Pectoretalk 23:46, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Nationalist
[edit]it is unacceptable to say that JVP is sinhala nationalist. they may have some nationalism (but more Russian i think ;)) but not Sinhalese. ask any of their leaders and they will say the same. so i'm gonna remove that part. if anyone thinks that's wrong, please build your case here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.43.63.184 (talk) 05:51, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Bad ISBN
[edit]Because it is causing a Checkwiki error #73: "ISBN-13 with wrong checksum", I would normally remove only the ISBN from this entry:
Publisher:"Nidahase Niyamuwo", Published : (June 23, 2008), Language: Sinhala, ISBN 978-955-1963-00-1 Parameter error in {{ISBN}}: checksum
However, the entry does not include the title of the document; therefore, I am deleting the entire entry. Without a title, the entry is useless, and I certainly have no way to correct the ISBN. Knife-in-the-drawer (talk) 14:59, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Outdated
[edit]The info is mostly outdated as the Party wasn't called People's Liberation Front since 2015.NPP isn't the national alliance but the party itself. Kommune12 (talk) 20:07, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- This is not true. Both the JVP/PLF and the JJB/NPP are registered parties.--Obi2canibe (talk) 11:37, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
It's more like a democratic wing not the same party nor a different party. Ert234 (talk) 03:52, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

2022 Protests
[edit]What is the JVP doing in the 2022 protests? Seems like something that ought to be included imo — Preceding unsigned comment added by Genabab (talk • contribs) 08:03, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
2024 Election Seats Same as National People's Power?
[edit]Both the National People's Power and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna list that they won the 2024 Sri Lankan parliamentary election. The information on the number of seats for both is the same for parliament and local councils. Perhaps I just don't understand, but how can both parties have the same number of seats? If they are linked, I think the page needs to do a better job explaining that. If they're not, then only one of them won those seats. Gnerkistanislaviyort (talk) 02:48, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Gnerkistanislaviyort: The National People's Power is an alliance consisting of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and numerous other non-political groups. It's simply wrong to say that everyone elected from the NPP is from JVP. Unfortunately there's a lot of this when it comes to Sri Lankan political articles - lazy editors making assumptions because they don't want to do the research to find out the facts.--Obi2canibe (talk) 19:08, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
